First appearance: Uncanny X-Men #266 (1990)
There is a section of the comic book community that, for reasons that still boggle our minds, is completely obsessed with Gambit. The card-charging, trench-coat-wearing, Louisiana guttersnipe has gathered a cult following over the years, despite never actually doing anything in the books. All he does is speak with a funny accent and dress in one of the worst costumes in all of comics.
Outside of that, Gambit is about as clichéd and dull a character as you can imagine. Yet there is always a pining for him to hit the big screen, especially ever since Taylor Kitsch, the master of the box-office bomb, played him briefly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine a few years back. If his small part in that is any indication, a solo Gambit movie would make us actually miss those made-for-TV Swamp Thing movies.
