According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios has hired Chris McCoy to rewrite the script to its upcoming adaptation of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book. McCoy has worked on plenty of unproduced "Black List" scripts in the past that have been well received in Hollywood circles, but this will be the first major writing credit of his career. Word is that his style has a "quirky comedic" quality that should fit in well with the broad tone of the studio's previous superhero movies.

The movie will focus on a team of maladjusted space adventurers—including Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora and Drax the Destroyer—as they attempt to bring peace and order to the galaxy. In the comics, the team often comes into conflict with the villainous Thanos, who appeared in the mid-credit scene of The Avengers. Perhaps he'll be the baddie in Guardians, as opposed to an Avengers sequel like we all assumed.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to hit theaters on August 1, 2014.
