Chances are that some of your earliest memories involve sitting in front of the TV and soaking in classic children's shows. Longtime favorites like Sesame Street and Barney & Friends have survived for decades by entertaining kids while also teaching them life lessons. But for each of these shows that have a positive influence on young minds, there are about a dozen or so that seem like they spawned from the drug-addled brains of writers and creators that shouldn’t be allowed near anyone under 18.

Between characters decked-out in nightmarish costumes, inexplicably surreal musical numbers, and sketchy middle-aged hosts that make Jeffrey Dahmer look like Dick Van Dyke, some of these shows are more likely to send kids to therapy than to educate them. And today, we're celebrating the 60th birthday of Paul Reubens, a.k.a Pee-wee Herman, one of the most bizarre hosts in the history of children's television.

Until he was caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar in an adult movie theater in 1991, Reubens scared an entire generation of kids straight as the pale-skinned, androgynous host of Pee-wee’s Playhouse. So, in honor of him turning the big 6-0, we’ve compiled a gallery of The 10 Creepiest Stars on Children’s Shows.
