Demonoid, the popular, members-only torrent portal, was shut down today by government officials in the Ukraine, where the site has its headquarters. It joins Oink.CD, BT Junkie and Megaupload in a growing digital grave that signals the end of the days when people could freely and easily torrent whatever they wanted.

Torrent Freak reports that Ukranian authorities have seized Demonoid's servers and extracted information from them. The site suggests that the raid was timed to coincide with the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Valeriy Khoroshkovsky to the White House as the Ukraine attempts to signal its willingness to join the U.S. in the fight against privacy.

It aint the wild west anymore.
