Coming off of this morning’s tragic story surrounding a shooting at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, we do have a bit of positive news for Batman fans everywhere. According to Super Hero Hype, the movie made an astonishing $27 million from its midnight screenings alone. This total beats out Marvel’sThe Avengers' $18 million midnight gross, but falls way short of the $43.5 million that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 made.

It will be interesting to see if the tragic shooting has an adverse effect on the movie’s box office potential this weekend. Either way, with the loss of human life in Colorado, we’re sure that box office receipts are the last thing on the filmmakers' mind.
