According to Peter Jackson's official Facebook page, the director announced just a few hours ago that filming has wrapped on The Hobbit. As you may know, The Hobbit is being split up into two parts, titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, so that means both are now in the can. With An Unexpected Journey coming out in just a few months, we're assuming that this last day of filming is for the second part, There and Back Again.
In a caption on his Facebook page, Jackson wrote, "We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!"
With all of the behind-the-scenes drama and financial troubles this movie has faced, it's a miracle that we're getting a Hobbit movie at all. And even though it has inexplicably flown below the radar compared to other blockbusters coming out this year, we still can't wait to see the first full trailer for this when it likely gets released before the end of the summer.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will hit theaters on December 14 of this year and The Hobbit: There and Back Again will be released on December 13, 2013.
