We reported earlier that the cast of Modern Family still don't have new contracts in place for the upcoming season, but at the time it looked like negotiations were moving along nicely. Well now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that cast members Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, and Sofia Vergara are in the process of suing 20th TV in order to get out of their existing deals.
These cast members want a significant raise from the $65,000 per episode that they are getting paid in their current contracts, but it looks like the studio isn't budging. The cast has already declined the studio's latest offer, and now all table reads for the upcoming season have been cancelled. The only adult member of the cast not participating in the lawsuit is Ed O'Neill, who already gets paid the most on the show by far.
With the show being as profitable as it has been over the past few years, we can't imagine a deal not being worked out in the very near future. But everything comes down to money, and if the sides can't agree, Modern Family fans might be in for a huge disappointment this season.
