The professional community was disappointed after Apple made no mention of the Mac Pro at the WWDC Keynote and then quietly refreshed the desktop line with modest updates. It made people—including us—wonder whether or not Apple was planning on discontinuing the Mac Pro line. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, today confirmed that the company has plans for a major update for its professional workstation.

Tim Cook responded to an Apple customer's email regarding the Mac Pro line and said that Apple is working on "something really great for later next year." He also suggested the new Mac Pro with Retina Display for professionals looking to cop a new machine.

Tim Cook's full email:

Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.
