Sony confirmed that SOCOM series developer Zipper Interactive is being permanently shut down yesterday. Rumors that the studio was being dismantled kicked up last week after reports of layoffs and a project cancellation.

"Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm the closure of Zipper Interactive, a Seattle-based internal game development studio that has been part of the global development operation of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios," Sony said.

According to their statement, Sony said Zipper's closing was a part of the "normal cycle of resource re-alignment" within SCE WWS, the larger body of Sony's first-party developers.

Recent projects like the Zipper's recent Vita title, Unit 13, which require maintenance will continue to be supported.
