Will New MacBooks Have Retina Displays?

High-resolution icons in Mac OS X Mountain Lion points to yes.

As soon as the iPhone 4 came out with Apple's super high-resolution "Retina Display", people have been wondering when it would make its way down Apple's entire product line. Now that the new iPad has it, everyone's waiting for it to make it to the MacBooks. Well, according to Ars Technica, that may be happening sooner than later.

Ars Technica was tipped off by someone with access to the developer release of Apple's Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion that there are "double-sized graphics" scattered about the OS. In the image above, an icon from iChat on the left can be seen to be double the resolution as the same icon on the right. The source says that this may hint at the impending summer release of MacBooks with Retina Displays, "perhaps concurrent with the release of OS X 10.8."

We can only hope.
