iTunes already killed off the need for carrying around stacks of vinyl. Now, it could further encroach upon DJing, rendering humans altogether useless. According to a patent application filed two years ago but just made public this week, Apple has been working on improving playlists. They would allow any iTunes-loaded device to interpret the beat of a song file, find the perfect song within one’s library to follow it, and crossfade the two together expertly. And while existing DJ something already performs similar functions, Apple could, of course, force a cease & desist if their patent came first.
