Reinforcing its status as the pre-eminent arbiter of online vigilante justice, Anonymous today shut down the websites of Citigroup and Citibank. A Brazilian outpost rogue hacker collective said on Twitter that they attacked the websites as a demonstration against corruption.
In addition to Citigroup and Citibank, Brazil's largest banking institutions, including Febradan, Banco MG and others, were targeted.
In a statement to the New York Times, a Citibank spokesman said that customers private data had not been compromised.
