On January 7 and 8, 2012, Battlefield 3 is hosting an event on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to draw the battle line between metal and hip-hop. Players will have a chance to join up with Big Boi, Korn, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, and Mickey Factz and lay waste to the opposing force. For the special occasion, DICE and EA are asking all players pick a side and throw down in the name of Metal. Or Hip-Hop.

No Hip-Metal, sorry.

The chosen players will be able to play alongside the stars in public matches and play the classic Battlefield multiplayer map, "Strike at Karkand," from the map pack "Back to Karkand," which dropped right after BF3's launch. Players can become a fan of their chosen side by using Battlefield 3’s social newsfeed and stat tracking tool, Battlelog.

Aside from that, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC players can create their own metal or hip-hop platoon to support the war throughout the month of January. Using Battlelogstats will be logged and monitored so that all players will know how many bullets are fired, how many vehicles are destroyed and how many virtual kills each side registers. All player-created metal or hip hop platoons must be up before January 31, 2012 and named so that DICE team members can easily find them to crown the champions.

Players who are interested in the chance to play with those folks should head over to the official Battlefield Blog and Battlelog for all the details.

So organize your platoon, put on Peace Sells...But Who's Buying, or Speakerboxxx, and let the other side have it!
