Considering yesterday's statement by the Entertainment Software Association regarding their ongoing support of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which has the potential to strangle the internet dead, it's nice to hear one of the companies that belongs to the ESA come forward and take a different stance.
Especially one as big as Epic; indie devs rejecting SOPA is one thing, but we have no doubt Epic's games have been pirated just as much as any other huge developer's. Even so, they admit that SOPA won't work in its current form:
"Epic games supports efforts that would stop overseas websites profiting from pirating our games, but we have to do that in a way that's compatible with freedom of speech and due process of law. Thus, we do not support the current version of SOPA."
They noted that the ESA is "working with legislators to refine the bill." Is one statement enough, though, or should Epic be doing more? Can they lead an exodus from the ESA or at least lobby the organization to alter its stance? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter.
