Back in August we reported that starting on October 5, AT&T had plans to slow down the speed of the top 5% of its users once they hit a certain threshold. According to Cult of Mac, AT&T has begun dialing down the data speeds of its heaviest data users to 2G.

AT&T is letting subscribers know the change is happening via a text message like the one above that reads: "Your data usage is among the top 5 percent of users. Data speeds for the rest of your current bill cycle may be reduced.”
