Following leaked screenshots during the summer, considerable information has now been made public about Microsoft’s under-construction social network, Socl.com, after The Verge was given exclusive access to an early build of the site.

According to their reports, the network is not a full-blown social experience a la Facebook (despite the resemblance), but rather one that stresses collaborative consumption—video-sharing, etc.—an area Microsoft has proved successful in with Xbox Live. Crowdsourced searching is set to be another main feature—for instance, searching for sneaker boutiques in Baltimore will open up the question to your Baltimore-area friends for recommendations.

As everything is still early-stage, Microsoft has yet to hint at a release date.
