Despite firing the entire writing staff and cutting ties with showrunner Frank Darabont, AMC is setting its sights high for the second season of its hit comic book adaptation The Walking Dead. And, according to Super Hero Hype, fans of the show can get extra zombie action with an extended 90-minute season premiere on October 16.

The second season, which is scheduled for 13 episodes, has been the source of a lot of debate on the Internet in recent months. Many sources are claiming that AMC is attempting to trim the budget from the show in order to make it more cost efficient, despite the show's huge success. These cuts would most likely come at the expense of the fantastic makeup, special effects, and location shooting that made the show such a hit initially.

There were also a lot of eyebrows raised during the finale of the first season after the show took a surprising plot turn, which was far removed from the storyline depicted in the original comic series.  Nevertheless, the show continues to be highly anticipated, production issues aside. Chances are we'll see if this show keeps smelling fresh as a daisy or as pungent as a rotting corpse when season two of The Walking Dead premieres on October 16.
