Why we’re excited: AMC’s beloved hit Mad Men has proven that audiences love a bit of richly written nostalgia, and that’s precisely what the folks behind Pan Am hope will drive their new endeavor. Set in 1963, ER writing veteran Jack Orman’s creation follows the daily lives of Pan American World Airways’ flight attendants and pilots, which, we’re guessing, include tons of cavorting, drama, and, hopefully, Mile High Club subplots.
Will Pan Am inspire trend-jumpers to start dressing like its characters, a la dudes who worship at the closet of Mad Men’s Don Draper? Probably not, but that’s not to say Pan Am’s historical, they-had-sex-back-then-too slant isn’t just as intriguing. Plus, word has it that one of the sexy female leads (one of whom is Christina Ricci, a huge plus) plays an undercover spy, adding a possible Jane Bond element to the pre-Civil-Rights, milquetoast ensemble. Now, the question is, will Pan Am be first class or coach?
