Spotify continues to go through growing pains in their initial month. After seemingly triumphing over record label skepticism, Spotify’s launch has been marred by lawsuits stemming from an evil cookie (no, really). Now Century Media, home to a handful of heavy metal and hardcore labels has yanked their artists from Spotify.

“Spotify in its present shape and form isn’t the way forward,” said Century Media in response to making the move. “Physical sales are dropping drastically in all countries where Spotify is active.”

Because Spotify gives more income streams to higher profile artists, Century Media was worried about losing potential income of physical sales for their smaller acts. Spotify has not responded yet, but it will be interesting to see if they react to try and prevent other labels from following suit.
