Production on the post-apocalyptic film World War Z has begun shooting in Glasgow, Scotland. Parts of the city will be changed into war-torn ruins as Brad Pitt and a crew of 1,200 people record scenes in George Square and other locations in the centre. Fake shop fronts and American cars will turn the third most populous city in the United Kingdom into Philadelphia.

World War Z is based on Max Brooks' 2006 novel, which takes place during the aftermath of a war between humans and zombies. Pitt will play Gerry Lane, a United Nations employee, who is charged with the task of documenting the undead outbreak. Bryan Cranston, Mireille Enos, and James Badge Dale also star. Some filming for the Paramount Pictures movie has already taken place in Valletta in Malta and in Falmouth in Cornwall, England.

As excited as we are to see another take on the zombie genre, we'll have to wait for the film to hit theaters on December 21, 2012.
