Jersey Shore may not exactly be educational viewing (unless you're searching for a list of things not to do in order to live a healthy life), but David Showalter, a researcher at the University of Chicago, has clearly found some sort of deeper meaning in the lives of our favorite boozing guidos—he's holding a conference to analyze the show!
The seminar, to be titled "Conference on Jersey Shore Studies," will take place on October 28th at the University of Chicago, and Showalter has already lined up three guest speakers. None of them are cast-members, unfortunately, but they are expected to add insight into the GTL phenomenon. According to Showalter, "Jersey Shore is a remarkably rich cultural text and artifact, and the conference will take advantage of the resources it offers."
