After last year's acclaimed (specifically by us) Facebook expose The Social Network, Academy Award-nominated David Fincher is looking to continue his journey to become Hollywood’s best director with his highly anticipated adaptation of the best-selling Swedish crime novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. And with the first teaser trailer finally here, Fincher seems to have hit all the right notes. It looks like he's back in dark, brutal Se7en mode—hell yes.
Every ounce of this trailer bleeds Fincher’s style and it should ensure fans of the book that the material will be handled with respect under the supervision of one of the film industry’s true artists. And while the footage in the trailer doesn’t feature any dialogue, the quick cut images show off a style and tone that perfectly fits the original novel. Quick flashes of Daniel Craig, a striking Rooney Mara (in an uncomfortably sexy Goth look as beloved character Lisbeth Salander), and Stellan Skarsgard set up their characters, but there's also a lot of mystery behind their roles for people that didn’t read the book. It does exactly what a trailer should always do: teases without spoiling anything.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will be released on December 21st; the "feel bad movie of Christmas," indeed.
