It looks like Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, Man Of Steel, just got a whole lot tougher. Variety reports that Oscar winner Russell Crowe is in talks to join the star-studded superhero flick.

Crowe is in talks to play Jor-El, Superman's biological father from Krypton. The role was previously portrayed by the late, great Marlon Brando in the Christopher Reeve-starring movies. Which is odd, since Snyder has stated that he has no intentions to rehash old Richard Donner ideas. Since Superman is not going to be such the pansy this time, as he was in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, it only makes sense that a badass be born from an older badass, right? But can Crowe fill Brando's huge shoes in Man of Steel?

It's also being reported that a popular big-name actress is being sought to play Superman's mother. In any case, with this casting, Crowe joins Henry Cavill (your new Clark Kent/Superman), Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, and Michael Shannon

Man Of Steel looks to save audiences from being trapped in their homes by snow some time in December 2012.
