Director Joss Whedon wrote on his website Whedonesque yesterday to announce that The Avengers will begin filming today.
The genre specialist, known for shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly, specifically said:
"Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I'm legally permitted to say that). Day one. That's right. We'll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene, at the following address:[Marvel Lawyers rush in, take Joss's keyboard, blowtorch a picture of his family like in "Stormy Monday", drink his milkshake, leave the seat up, fluff his pillows, violently unfluff his pillows, leave]"
These are the words that so many comic heads have been waiting for since last summer. The massive Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios action-adventure flick features Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain America; Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury; Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and a host of others.
Earth's mightiest heroes will land into theaters just over a year from now on May 4, 2012.
