With all of the gangster movies out there, it’s kind of hard to believe that we haven’t yet seen one based on the greatest O.G. of our time, John Gotti, since Armand Assante played him in HBO's 1996 flick Gotti: The Rise and Fall of a Real Life Mafia Don.

Well, it looks like that's about to change. According to Indie Wire, John Travolta, who has been in talks with Marc Fiore, the producer of Gotti: Three Generations, the current title of the Gotti biopic in development, has officially landed the lead role of the Dapper Don.

The movie's script is still being worked on, but shooting is expected to start this summer, with Gotti's son, John Gotti Jr., expected to have some input into the film.

The film’s director will be Nick Cassavetes, who was behind the lens for John Q and Alpha Dog. Yeah we know, this isn't exactly an all-star team we got going here (Martin Scorsese, where are you?) but, hey, at least we’re seeing something.
