Much could be said about Darren Aronofsky’s hypnotic and dynamite Black Swan, which hits theaters this Friday. Natalie Portman shines as a tightly-wound New York City ballerina who's paranoid about losing her starring role to a kinky rival (Mila Kunis). French badass Vincent Cassel scores as Portman’s emotional terrorist of a director. For his part, Aronofsky uses his many filmmaking tricks to deliver tons of hallucinatory, psyche-shredding imagery and turn the final 30 minutes of Black Swan into a mind-screw of the highest caliber.
Yet, for all of the film’s laudable elements, there’s one award-worthy scene we can’t stop thinking about: a fiery lesbian hook-up session between Portman and Kunis. It’s hot enough as is, but when you consider that it’s Natalie freakin’ Portman and Mila freakin’ Kunis getting it on with each other, and not some anonymous porn stars in a B-movie, it’s epic. So epic, in fact, that it inspired us to revisit the 20 hottest credible girl-on-girl movie scenes! This is one time “No Boys Allowed” is fine with us!

Lost and Delirious
#20: PIPER PERABO AND JESSICA PARE IN LOST AND DELIRIOUS (2001)
The tears and heartbreak that spring from this girl-on-girl kiss take away from what could’ve been a real slam dunk for us Perabo-loving guys. Pare’s character loves someone else, a man, so Perabo gives her love one last college try. It’s both sad and sexy, a combination that tip-toes the line between sizzle and buzzkill. Though her decision to go lezzy would’ve been hotter in, say, Coyote Ugly, she’s still as adorable as ever in Lost and Delirious, an independent Canadian drama set in a university dorm.
Cruel Intentions
#19: SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR AND SELMA BLAIR IN CRUEL INTENTIONS (1999)
It was the saliva that sent men into a heated frenzy. Gellar’s character, a bitchy rich girl, offers to teach prudish Blair how to kiss. Seated picnic-style in a park, the gals press lips in a drawn-out close-up that ends in a long string of spit connecting their voice-boxes. When it’s not of the lyrical kind, spit is usually a turn-off, but not here. For added kicks, watch the scene with Cam’ron’s high-class “Wet Wipes” playing in the background.
Boys Don't Cry
#18: HILARY SWANK AND CHLOE SEVIGNY IN BOYS DON’T CRY (1999)
Boys Don’t Cry is a real devastator, telling a tragic story of love and damnation and featuring a killer performance from an unrecognizable Swank. All that said, it admittedly feels wrong to pant like a dog during Swank’s sex scene with Sevigny—it’s a good thing we’re shallower than a kiddie pool! In our defense, though, nine out of ten love doctors will agree that sex is always better when there’s true love at hand. So you can’t blame us for totally buying the scene—perhaps a bit too much.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
#17: SCARLETT JOHANSSON AND PENELOPE CRUZ IN VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA (2008)
From the moment the trailer for Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona debuted in mid ’08, all talk centered around a glimpsed-at makeout session between Johansson and Cruz, and, thankfully, the complete product didn’t disappoint. Set against the red lights of a photo development room, the A-listers’ kiss isn’t a mere peck—it’s an extended French smooch, with hands roaming through hair and chests pressed against each other. Yet another reason to salute Woody Allen.
Henry and June
#16: UMA THURMAN AND MARIA DE MEDEIROS IN HENRY & JUNE (1990)
It’s safe to assume that Quentin Tarantino has seen Henry & June, if not multiple times. What are we basing this assumption on? Well, Thurman is one of QT’s favorite actresses, having starred in Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill twosome, and Henry & June was her coming out party as a sexy beast. Despite his known fondness of women’s feet, Tarantino must also adore Thurman’s kissing skills, seen in this Paris-set period film as she tongues down De Medeiros. He’d probably have some scholarly things to say about the scene from a filmmaker’s standpoint, too. We, on the other hand, skip right to the point.
Head in the Clouds
#15: CHARLIZE THERON AND PENELOPE CRUZ IN HEAD IN THE CLOUDS (2004)
Charlize Theron sure knows how to leave a mark. In Head in the Clouds, a 1930s-set European romance, the South African blondie engages in a passionate kiss with a just-as-ready Cruz, a first base trip that ends with Theron biting Cruz’s lip. Freaky, huh? Not to mention, very memorable—in 2006, Cruz was quoted by the New York Post as saying Theron was the best kisser she’d worked with at that point in her career. We’ll take her word for it...and resist that Jergens bottle eyeing us up from the bathroom.
D.E.B.S.
#14: JORDANA BREWSTER AND SARA FOSTER IN D.E.B.S. (2004)
Even though we would’ve loved to see costar Meagan Good join in on the fun, the lesbian romance at the center of the otherwise forgettable action-comedy D.E.B.S. is a winner. Played mostly as lighthearted flirtation, the bond between the villainous Brewster and heroine Foster does culminate in a few choice bouts of tonsil hockey. Leaving Foster’s secret agents Good and Aoki on the sidelines is only one of the script’s assorted penalties.
May
#13: ANNA FARIS AND ANGELA BETTIS IN MAY (2002)
Ever heard of writer-director Lucky McKee’s May? If not, it’s both one of the best and most underappreciated horror movies of the last decade, so Netflix it ASAP. The title character (played superbly by Bettis, seen this season on Dexter) is a social outcast who yearns for an intimate connection; Faris plays her outgoing lesbian friend. Throughout the film, a black-haired Faris flirts with Bettis, before applying the pressure in a closed-door scene complete with kissing and exposed bras. A brutal horror flick with hot girl-on-girl action, May is exactly the kind of "scary movie" Faris should make more often.
Jennifer's Body
#12: MEGAN FOX AND AMANDA SEYFRIED IN JENNIFER’S BODY (2009)
It’s not easy fantasizing about Megan Fox when you know she’s somewhere cuddling with one of hip-hop’s worst white rappers ever—Brian Austin Green. Not since Julia Roberts married eraserhead Lyle Lovett has a sex symbol underachieved so greatly in the bedroom. The equally fine Seyfried is a much more suitable bedfellow for Fox, especially when both are sporting pajamas and experimenting in a little same-sex tongue action. It’s the only reason to endure the tonally delinquent misfire that is Jennifer’s Body.
Wild Side
#11: ANNE HECHE AND JOAN CHEN IN WILD SIDE (1995)
Nope, Anne Heche isn’t a ringer on this list. We’re aware that, in real life, she was once linked to Ellen DeGeneres, but we’re not strict with rules here, anyway. All that matters is if a scene’s hot or not, and this one is scorching. Also, this one's the most technically advanced of the lot. For nearly three minutes, the camera glides around the bed like a Pong ball in slow motion, capturing a naked Heche’s every moan and an equally birthday-suited Chen’s every sigh. It’s the best indirect advertisement for film school we’ve ever seen.
She Hate Me
#10: KERRY WASHINGTON AND DANIA RAMIREZ IN SHE HATE ME (2004)
Spike Lee’s She Hate Me includes a scene where Anthony Mackie walks in on his girl (Washington) cheating on him with Ramirez, who’s talking dirty in Spanish while riding Washington like a stallion. You’d tag yourself in WWE-style and yell, “Three’s a crowd,” right? Not Mackie’s character, who spoils the two-dimes-for-one opportunity in a jealous rage. It took us all the way until Mackie’s great work in last year’s The Hurt Locker to forgive the guy.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
#9: JULIETTE BINOCHE AND LENA OLIN IN THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING (1988)
Oh, the things women will do for the sake of art. Olin’s character, a photographer, convinces Binoche to disrobe and allow herself to be photographed in the buff. Binoche then sprawls out on a couch. To get, umm, tighter shots, Olin straddles her model and massages her derriere—it’s art, after all. We’d attend one of Olin’s exhibitions anytime.
Frida
#8: SALMA HAYEK AND KARINE PLANTADIT-BAGEOT AND ASHLEY JUDD IN FRIDA (2002)
In this biopic about Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Hayek donned Hollywood’s worst unibrow this side of Peter Gallagher. As seen in Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, though, she looks good even with a full-on beard. Her making out with Judd and naked wrestling and caressing with Plantadit-Bageot in Frida is so hot, Hayek could’ve gone Teen Wolf in the face and we would've been OK with it.
Chloe
#7: AMANDA SEYFRIED AND JULIANNE MOORE IN CHLOE (2010)
If Complex had any say in the Academy Awards nominations, Amanda Seyfriend’s work in Chloe would be a shoe-in for a Best Actress nod. As the film’s titular (emphasis on the first three letters...high five!) seductress, Seyfried literally bares all to portray a young sex-fiend hired by Julianne Moore’s bored housewife to test her husband’s (Liam Neeson) fidelity. Attracted more to the wife than husband, Seyfried focuses on Moore’s inhibitions and ultimately gets the elder redhead in the sack for a rather steamy finger-bang. Consider our ballot box stuffed.
Bound
#6: GINA GERSHON AND JENNIFER TILLY IN BOUND (1996)
Whatever happened to Gina Gershon? Except for her funny Sarah Palin spoof in 2008, the sexy-as-sin actress has been virtually M.I.A. on screens both big and small. Come to think of it, we should ask the same question of Gershon’s Bound costar Jennifer Tilly—her glorious cleavage and smoky voice are sorely missed. Instead of making an asinine Rubik’s Cube movie (seriously, that’s going to happen), Hollywood’s execs need to reunite these two actresses for another three-plus minutes of seduction, fondling, and aggressive kissing. The tickets will sell themselves.
Gia
#5: ANGELINA JOLIE AND ELIZABETH MITCHELL IN GIA (1998)
Before she became the queen of Hollywood, Jolie was a relatively unknown actress wowing critics with her turn as troubled fashion model Gia Carangi in this made-for-TV flick. Carangi had a thing for the ladies, which meant that the ever-uninhibited Jolie had to get down and dirty with blonde cutie Mitchell (she of recent Lost and V notoriety). What results is a two-minute-long dose of sensuality that puts any Skin-a-max production to shame.
Wild Things
#4: DENISE RICHARDS AND NEVE CAMPBELL IN WILD THINGS (1998)
How the mighty have fallen. Back in her Wild Things era, Denise Richards was an extreme sexpot with come-hither eyes and a body to match. Those years were also quite kind to Neve Campbell, thanks to her dreamgirl ascension via Scream. When the two of them (including a topless Richards) got all wet and intimate in the Wild Things pool scene, an iconic girl-on-girl moment was born. If they were to reenact the scene today, it’d be lukewarm—time hasn’t treated either actress too kindly. Thanks for the memories, ladies.
Black Swan
#3: NATALIE PORTMAN AND MILA KUNIS IN BLACK SWAN (2010)
In a film where Portman sprouts wings, amongst other physical grotesqueries, the actress’ carnal romp with Kunis does her body good. Uptight ballerina Nina (Portman), is sexually repressed, and Lily (Kunis) knows it. After slipping a pill into Nina’s drink, Lily watches her humorless wing-woman run wild inside a nightclub. Then, back at Nina’s crib, the two beauties ravage each other, with Lily granted full-tongue-access into her partner’s groin. Keeping with the film’s overall trippy vibe, Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky blurs the line between what’s really happening and what’s merely Nina’s own perverse fantasy. Either way, it’s a wet dream come true.
Mulholland Drive
#2: NAOMI WATTS AND LAURA HARRING IN MULHOLLAND DRIVE (2001)
Brain-scrambler extraordinaire David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive is a knockout, sure, but it’s also one of film’s most confusing labyrinths of all time. From the first frame onward, it’s unpredictable as hell, yet the one easily foreseeable plot turn is the sexual climax of Watts and Harring’s touchy-feely camaraderie. Tops off and moans on, these ladies are no teases. There is one problem, however: Lynch withheld the “Scene Selection” from Mulholland Drive’s DVD release. He prefers viewers to experience the film as a whole. We remember to (sarcastically) thank Lynch whenever we fast forward through nearly two hours of movie just to see Watts and Harring in action. That’s dedication, folks.
The Hunger
#1: SUSAN SARANDON AND CATHERINE DENEUVE IN THE HUNGER (1983)
The most artistically shot girl-on-girl scene on our list, Sarandon’s elegant romp with legendary French actress Deneuve is as adult as they come. Haunting opera music, taken from Leo Delibes’s "Lakme"; Deneuve’s patient and methodical seduction; the shadowy effect of flowing sheets surrounding the white bed on which Deneuve licks Sarandon’s nipples like lollipops. It’s art house meets softcore, a combination made all the more curious once you realize that The Hunger is the feature debut of director Tony Scott. Scott, of course, is the same guy who’s directed such subtle spectacles as The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and this year’s Unstoppable. See, some hot girl-on-girl loving can make even the most unruly of fellas slow his roll.
