Prosecutors want Youngboy Never Broke Again’s probation to be revoked, and for the Louisiana native to “serve a suspended 10-year prison term for his role in a nonfatal November 2016 drive-by shooting,” The Advocate reports. The request follows Youngboy’s Feb. 25 arrest in Florida for kidnapping and assault.
In court documents, East Baton Rouge Parish Assistant District Attorney April Leon claims that Youngboy is “a threat to society and the safety of others.” Youngboy was arrested in early 2017 and accused of two counts of attempted first-degree murder. He pleaded guilty in May to a lesser charge of aggravated assault with a firearm from the 2016 drive-by shooting.
In August, state District Judge Bonnie Jackson gave Youngboy a suspended 10-year prison term and three-year probation. His probation required that he remain without arrests or convictions—and that he either complete 250 hours of community service or create a public service announcement speaking out against violence in rap.
Unfortunately, on Feb. 25, he was apprehended in Tallahassee, Florida. Following the incident, East Baton Rouge Parish ADA Leon asked for Youngboy’s probation to be revoked, and instead, asked that he serve the suspended 10-year sentence.
“It's serious, but it's not nearly as severe as it's been made out to be,” Youngboy’s attorney James Manasseh said, per The Advocate. He added that annulling the Louisiana emcee’s probation would inappropriate. “There’s no kidnapping. There’s no weapons involved.”
Leon has requested that District Judge Jackson repeal Youngboy’s probation on May 18, the day that she already set to reassess Youngboy’s probation. Leon is asking that Youngboy also is held in custody until the hearing.
Included in Leon’s probation revocation motion is the fact that his kidnapping arrest included “domestic violence against a dating partner.” Leon noted that Youngboy’s actions go against the requirements of his probation. “It has become apparent to the State that the defendant has chosen to not abide by the conditions imposed by this Honorable Court,” Leon said.
According to Manasseh, Youngboy is still in custody in Georgia. His debut album Until Death Call My Name was slated for a March 2 release, but has since been pushed back to April. While there's no word on why the project was delayed, it’s safe to assume that it has something to do with his legal troubles.
