Post Malone Clears Up His Controversial Hip-Hop Comments: 'I Love Hip-Hop' (UPDATE)

In a two-minute video Wednesday night, Post clarified his comments and affirmed his love and respect for the genre.

UPDATED 11/24/17: Following a week of scattered controversies, Post Malone has clarified his comments on hip-hop. In a two-minute video shared via his Twitter account Wednesday night, Post affirmed his love and respect for the genre and elaborated further on what he intended to get across during that Newonce interview.

"Apparently there's a lot of people saying that I don't appreciate hip-hop or that hip-hop has never made me feel anything, and I'm referencing this interview that I did in Poland while I was on the European tour," Post said. "It was a beer-tasting interview, so they put a lot of beer in my face and asked me what kind of beer tastes good to me, so you know, knowing me, I drank it. And apparently I said that whenever you wanna feel something, don't listen to hip-hop. And it's funny because who the fuck am I to tell you don't listen to this and whenever you wanna feel something don't listen to this? Or who am I to tell you that you should feel a certain way when listening to something?"

Newonce, however, later disputed Post's beer estimates.

What Post was apparently trying to get across during the interview was simply that Bob Dylan was his personal go-to cry music. "What I was saying was that when I wanna sit down and cry, I sit down and I listen to Boy Dylan and his guitar," he said. "Just like everyone else, no matter how hard you are, no matter where you're from, you're gonna have times where you sit back and reflect on your life and you listen to what you wanna listen to. For me, that's Bob Dylan."

As for those saying the "Rockstar" hitmaker doesn't "appreciate" hip-hop or is "taking advantage" of it, Post disagreed. "My last hip-hop album was fucking hip-hop," he said. "My next hip-hop album is fucking hip-hop. I love hip-hop. I make hip-hop. I wanna take this genre and stretch it so far that people who may not listen to it, listen to it, and wanna listen to the new artists and whatever's going on."

Post also circled back to the portion of the Newonceinterview that was widely quoted in headlines, clarifying his intentions. "A lot of people, except for a handful of artists, are saying the same shit," he said. "They're not saying anything super meaningful. I'm 22 years old. I have not had all the life experience in the world to talk about the most meaningful shit. I just sing about what I have gone through, what's going on in my life, and what I wanna sing about. Never once did I say that I don't appreciate hip-hop, and you know, I'm just trying to keep living and make the music that I love."

Shortly after Post shared the video, Logic shared his support in a quick tweet. "That's my homie," he said. "Good dude great artist and all around gentleman [sic]."

In case you missed it, Post and 21 Savage recently dropped the official "Rockstar" video. It's full of blood and is perfect to have on a loop this Thanksgiving as you consume rotting flesh around the table and pretend to be interested in distant cousins' lives.
