Drake and Future Are the Two Most Illegally Downloaded Artists of the Year

Despite the number of new streaming services, illegal downloading of music is still alarmingly high across the board. No matter what Tidal, Apple Music, or Spotify have in store, these services will never be able to completely curve illegal downloading. According to a new study from SeatSmart, the illegal downloading market has shown no signs of dying down.

The study not only breaks down hip-hop, but a variety of genres including pop, rock, country, and R&B. Not surprisingly, Drake and Future's massive success on the charts this year translated to plenty of illegal torrents of their projects. Future's DS2 was downloaded illegally the most per day and Drake's IYRTITL was overall most illegally downloaded project of the year, so far. The Empire season one soundtrack was the most illegally downloaded R&B album of the year, as well.
