This morning Complex posted a French rap song called "Horus" that bears an undeniable resemblance in both beat and flow to Vic Mensa's "U Mad." The SoundCloud dated it at least a year old; "U Mad" dropped in April. Vic has also refuted claims, on wax, that Kanye inspired "U Mad"'s sound, instead alleging that he made the track long before he even really started hanging with Ye. "Horus," on the other hand, belongs to French rapper Monsieur Ice. "'Horus' is a song I made over a year ago for my birthday," he told us, "in the early spring of 2014 and put out last July. The song is basically about how you have to make money in life. It's motivational, and I reach out to all different races in the hook."

Ice, who has been active in the French rap scene for six years now, says he became hip to Vic Mensa when he performed alongside Kanye earlier this year at the Brit Awards. Two months later when Vic dropped "U Mad," Ice noticed the similarities immediately: "I can't just come out and say he outright stole my song, but there are undeniable similarities between mine and his, from the beat to the flow, the delivery and the hook. A lot of things sound very, very much alike."

As to why this is only just coming to light now despite "U Mad" being three months old, well, Ice really wasn't sure what to do. His label has been notified, but it was his manager who ultimately decided to send the song our way. How, if at all, "Horus" came Vic's way is unclear. The song's producer though, Jo A, has worked with American rappers, producing Wiz Khalifa's "Let It Go" and logging time with Swizz Beatz and Travi$ Scott as well. Ice for his part, stressed that he "doesn't want beef," and that "Vic seems like a good artist." And overall "['U Mad'] is nice." We'll see if Vic comments on this, if at all.
