While many might just now being introduced to the "night bass" sound, which has origins in the UK funky scene, the scene has been taking off on both sides of the Atlantic over the last few years. AC Slater first spoke with us about the sound back in late 2013, where he spoke of plans to throw a monthly Night Bass party in Los Angeles as an extension of his Party Like Us brand. With the iconic Trouble & Bass imprint closing up shop back in March, now was the right time for T&B member AC Slater to continue to carry the torch with a new imprint, Night Bass.

The This Is Night Bass, Vol. 1 compilation comes on the heels of a solid year of not only fresh Night Bass parties in LA, but with a dope North American tour, and features a number of acts that solidify what the "night bass" vibes truly are. There's a fire undercurrent of bass-heavy jams that has crowds hype, but isn't fully represented in the high-octane EDM side of the electronic music spectrum. Assembling acts like DJ Q, Taiki Nulight, Chris Lorenzo, Petey Clicks, and Jack Beats all under one roof is an amazing feat in and of itself, but more importantly, finally putting a definitive stamp on this movement with a seven-track compilation is key.

"Wild Fire," which is the offering from OWSLA-affiliated London duo Jack Beats, perfectly encapsulates the heart of this vibe. Never overbearing, "Wild Fire" tows a chilled middle ground that knows when to let loose a sly smirk, coaxing you into devious acts with its hypnotic drop. There's no fist-pumping EDM aggression here, though; it maintains its cool throughout, evolving into a steady groove that dares you to look away.

This Is Night Bass Vol. 1 drops on June 29; the entire squad will be in Las Vegas for this weekend's EDC, hosting the 7 Stage with all kinds of night bass-y delight.
