For the average EDM fan, tuning in to the MTV Video Music Awards last night became a letdown when it became unmistakably clear that Daft Punk was not going to be performing. The tiniest of consolation prizes came in the form of a DJ in a corny hat, dropping Disclosure's "When A Fire Starts To Burn." The four-on-the-floor thump caught our ears immediately and had us questioning who the dude playing house at the VMAs was. We weren't the only ones, apparently.

So who is he? He goes by the name DJ Cassidy and he's something of a celebrity DJ, but he's just now gearing up for the release of his debut album, which is coming out in the next few months. He was the DJ on the Jay-Z & Justin Timberlake joint tour this summer and a highly visible DJ for the Obama presidential campaign last year. Despite his big gigs and presence in the New York DJ scene for well over a decade, a lot of people are still wondering, "Who the hell is DJ Cassidy?"
