This week Killer Mike and El-P visit The Combat Jack Show. In part two of their three part discussion, El-P and Killer Mike break down the shortcomings of rap radio.
Combat kicks things off asking about Hot 97's program director Ebro's infamous comments about the line between "major league rappers" and "minor league rappers."
El-P mentions his previous tweets in response to Ebro and goes into a tirade about why his comments made no sense, pointing out that independent rappers can and do outsell major label artists these days. He goes on to say that if the station is going to just pre-program all its music, they might as well fire their DJs because they're not letting DJs do their job.
Killer Mike counters asking why rap programmers haven't gotten together to create their own radio station that functions essentially like a classic rock station. "Why don't we have a radio station that plays rap music 24 hours a day?" asks Mike. "Why haven't guys in your industry been wising up to create an AFL to compete with the NFL to force a merger?"
