When: 1994

Lighty got hip to Warren G after watching his video for "Indo Smoke" and wasted no time convincing Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons to sign the West Coast rapper. At the time, Death Row and West Coast hip-hop were dominating the charts and airwaves, and although Warren G was down with Death Row (he's Dr. Dre's half-brother), he had been ignored by Suge Knight. Warren G was a huge coup for Def Jam. His debut album went triple platinum and "Regulate" was a No. 1 single.
