This past Thursday, the Brisk Bodega pop-up tour landed in NYC, setting up shop on Manhattan’s West Side. This unique meld of art gallery and club space presented a range of original takes on iconic Star Wars characters, as well as the struggle between Light and Dark that Brisk has made central to its latest ad campaign. Anchoring the visual theme were two Star Wars characters who figure prominently in Episode One (just re-released in 3D): Yoda, the all-time Jedi master, and Darth Maul, the Sith lord who was introduced in the first of the prequels. Yoda always brings a sort of earthy neutrality to things, creating an aura of calm wherever he turns up, while Darth Maul is all fire and anger with his distinctive red and black facial pattern. Both themes were put to great use by the featured artists, who included Mark Dean Veca, Eye One, Artek, Jasper Wong, Pose, Leo Eguiarte, Tristan Eaton and Dual Forces, and the diversity of styles on display—from primitive to street—was stunning.

While guests took in the art, they also got to attack eachother (good-naturedly) with lightsabers and enjoy Brisk iced tea, while DJ Soul and Just Blaze held down the musical component. Overall, the space itself was decked out with Star Wars Episode One–themed posters, layered one over the other, giving the venue a distinct Downtown feel—a vibe that was amplified as the crowd grew throughout the night, clearly proving that this was Thursday's place to be.
