Trump Is Still Taking Credit for Americans Saying "Merry Christmas"

Because "Happy Holidays" is offensive?

Remember the separation of church and state? Apparently, Trump doesn’t. For his first White House Christmas, Trump tweeted a real, um… Jesus-y video wishing Americans a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Earlier, he proclaimed his semantic victory in the battle that no one knew (or cared) he was fighting, except his alt-right, bible-thumping base. “People are proud to be saying Merry Christmas again. I am proud to have led the charge against the assault of our cherished and beautiful phrase. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!” he tweeted. I’d rather you lead the charge for nationalized healthcare, but okay.

This Christmas Eve, President Trump talked with members of the U.S. military via video teleconference. All five branches of the military are represented during the call with troops from various bases around the world. pic.twitter.com/GN0cqC8asV

We get it dude, you like the words Merry Christmas. But we all know this isn’t about words. The alt-rights perceived war on Christmas is nothing more than a dog-whistle for religious Christian zealots who DGAF that nearly one-fifth of Americans don’t identify as Christian, or that founding of our country was predicated on religious freedom. Heaven forbid our commander-in-chief make an effort to be more inclusive with a "Happy Holidays." For all you Jesus freaks out there, that includes Christmas.

Speaking as a latke-eating half-Jew, I have no problem with the words Merry Christmas. I have even less of a problem with it when it comes from someone who truly espouses their faith, which I don’t believe Trump does, cont. (His God is money, IMO, contrary to what this idiot may tell you.) But must we bring Jesus into it? Need I remind everyone that the Bible makes zero mention of fat dude in a red suit, reindeer, or Black Friday sales. I know we're supposed to be celebrating Jesus' birthday, but the way we actually celebrate Christmas in this country is really pagan-cum-capitalist AF.

Anyway, since words aren’t really her strongest suit (that’s not an anti-non-English speaker thing, but I can’t help but notice the irony given her husband's stance on immigrants), the First Lady also served up some Christmas cheer with a much appropriate (if not the most tasteful), non-Jesusy selfie.

Her husband should take notes.
