A Texas Man Was Cleared After Police Mistook Cat Litter for Crystal Meth

Police believed Ross Lebeau was in possession of crystal meth when it was in fact cat litter. The case was ultimately dismissed when on Wednesday, after.

Texas police believed they had found a real life Walter White, when they accused Ross Lebeau of possessing a large amount of methamphetamine. What they actually found was a sock full of kitty litter.

"People have been calling me a kingpin or a drug lord,” Lebeau, 24, told KTRK. “They thought they had the biggest bust in Harris County. This was the bust of the year for them.”

The arrest was made after Lebeau was pulled over for a routine traffic stop. When police discovered what they believed to be a half pound of meth, they booked Lebeau and incarcerated him. A sheriff’s office press release even boasted that Leabeau’s arrest “may have kept our children and loved ones free from being introduced to drugs.”

The case was ultimately dismissed when on Wednesday, after authorities realized their mistake, despite the fact that two separate tests performed by the police suggested that the material found in the sock was in fact, meth.

According to KTRK, Lebeau doesn’t fault police for their epic blunder, and instead blames their shoddy testing methods. “Ultimately it might be bad budget-cutting testing equipment they need to re-evaluate,” his attorney George Reul said.

Since his arrest, Lebeau lost his job, and reputation has taken a major hit. “I would like an apology,” he added. “I was wrongly accused and I’m going to do everything in my power, with my family’s backing, to clear my name.”

As for why Lebeau had a sock full of cat litter in his car, Lebeau claims it’s a trick to prevent his windows from fogging. Perhaps next time he should just use the car heater like the rest of us.
