Coming out of Sheffield, England's Steel City, Phlegm is one of the most exciting street art muralists to emerge in the last year. His work is highly detailed, with distinctive figures and narrative structure. The form of his murals, no doubt, develops from his second artistic life as a comic artist. There's an old world aesthetic, something close to woodblock printing, which makes the work stand out against the crowd. And, there is a tremendous understanding of scale to boot.

Phlegm has painted aeroplanes. He's painted boats. He's gone big on buildings. And, he's represented well at major street art festivals like Nuart.

That said, he's also a little mysterious.

No artist statment. No fancy bio. Here, we just let the work speak for itself.

Check out some of Phlegm's personal favorite works of 2011.
