The "Bodak Yellow" rapper revealed the news Tuesday night via Twitter, writing in a now-deleted tweet that a cop had put her in a chokehold.
When one of her fans speculated that the officer was white, Cardi replied, "Yeup [sic] he was" in another tweet that was quickly deleted. She has not tweeted since, nor clarified why the messages were deleted.
Complex reached out to a rep for Cardi, who didn't have any comment. The NYPD Public Information office did not have any information about what, if anything, happened, but confirmed to Complex that Cardi had not been arrested that evening.
TMZ, citing "sources connected" with Cardi, reported Wednesday that the incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. near Columbus Circle. Cardi was reportedly in her new Bentley SUV when she was struck by another vehicle. Following the collision, Cardi and her cousin reportedly got into an argument with the other driver, at which point the officer got involved. Cardi, TMZ said, was pinned against the Bentley by the officer. Cardi was not driving at the time of the incident. Sources said Wednesday that no report was written and no citations were issued. Cardi is not expected to take legal action.
