Paramount Pictures has announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that S.J. Clarkson will direct Star Trek 4, making her the first female director in the Star Trek franchise. While details regarding the film remain sparse, Varietyrevealed that plans are in place to have the movie revolve around Chris Hemsworth, who was Chris Pine’s father in 2009’s Star Trek. The two are rumored to meet one another in a “time travel ploy.” Zachary Quinto is also expected to reprise his role as Spock.

Even though Clarkson will be directing Star Trek 4, she has earned her stripes on the small screen. She has directed an episode of Orange Is the New Black, two episodes of Jessica Jones, three episodes of Dexter, and two episodes of Heroes.

During the same CinemaCon event, Paramount revealed that another Star Trek film is in development, but wouldn’t provide any additional information regarding that other project. Many believe that the mysterious movie is the long-rumored one that has had Quentin Tarantino’s name attached to it. Back in December, reports surfaced that Tarantino tapped The Revenant writer Mark L. Smith to write the script for the R-rated flick.
