Pokemon games are about two things—catching and battling. Both aspects of the game weren’t fully developed early on, making for a distinct difference between the thrilling battles of the main series games and the tap-smashing battle system of Pokemon GO.

And that wasn’t the only disappointing aspect of the mobile game. Due to a flawed early tracking system that only provided a general radial distance of the Pokemon and not an actual location, finding Pokemon also proved difficult. You could spend up to ten minutes finding a Pokemon up to 3 km away, only for it to disappear before you reached it. For casual players who lacked patience, this was the proverbial nail in Pokemon GO’s coffin.
