When Shia LaBeoufwed longtime girlfriend, Mia Goth, in an Elvis-themed Las Vegas wedding earlier this month, there was one person conspicuously absent from the proceedings. That's because Shia’s father, Jeffrey LaBeouf, has been evading law enforcement for three years after the convicted pedophile failed to register as a sex offender.

According to The Daily Mail, the senior LaBeouf has been holing up in Costa Rica’s seedy Montezuma area for the past 18 months. But, despite his outlaw status, LaBeouf has maintained a fairly visible profile on Facebook, where he revealed that he’s currently working as a teacher.

"I'm teaching art," he writes, with zero mention of his famous son. In fact, LaBeouf’s presence on social media is surprisingly prolific considering his current status as a fugitive from the law. In photos taken this year, LaBeouf is shown living what amounts to a sun-soaked vacation for most people, tanned, grinning, and taking selfies.

Not only has LaBeouf failed to register with the Megan’s Law database, but he appears to have been wiped from its records completely. When contacted by The Daily Mail, the Californian Attorney General's office "confirmed they have no record of Jeffrey's new location and are unaware of any specific reason why he would be removed from the register."

LaBeouf’s legal troubles stem from a 1981 assault charge with attempt to rape. The incident involved a minor and also saw him charged with kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. Despite his checkered past, Shia has maintained a close relationship with his father over the years. After his surprise wedding, Shia explained to Ellen Degeneres that part of the impetus for filming their nuptials was to include both his and Goth’s dad in their special day. "Dad's couldn't be there," he said. "So it was nice to have them there in a way."
