Let's take a break from all the superheroes and explosions and talk about Heaven Knows What. Directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, this is a fierce indie blurring the lines between fiction and nonfiction and delving into the world of grime and addiction like only a few other films have. The comparisons to Requiem for a Dream and Trainspotting are easy to make—and that's a compliment.

Heaven Knows What stars Arielle Holmes (who also wrote the memoir on which the movie is based) as a heroin addicted girl infatuated with her partner in life and in drugs. The only thing wilder than the way they scrape through New York City every day is what this man asks of Holmes: to prove her love for him by slitting her wrists.

I'll just leave you with that. Watch the trailer for the award-winning movie above, then see it when it hits theaters on May 29.
