God Help the Girl tells the story about Eve (played by Emily Browning), a girl living in Glasgow, Scotland who's really struggling -- we're talking hospital-grade struggles, here -- until she begins writing songs with two rootless souls, the wonderfully-named Cass (Game of Thrones' Hannah Murray) and James (OIly Alexander). It's the latest modern day musical that will steal your heart; a saving grace for anyone who's been thirsting for a Once sequel for the past seven years (guilty).
Written and directed by Belle & Sebastian lead singer, Stuart Murdoch, God Help the Girl features a suite of new original songs by Murdoch himself, which act as the emotional backdrop of the film.
But if none of this entices you (HAVE YOU NO SOUL!?), you can at least sit back and bask in the bohemian beauty that Eve, Cass and James exude in the movie's very first poster. Gosh, who knew a coonskin hat would look so good on a girl?
God Help the Girl is out in the UK on August 22, and opens in New York City on September 5. Find a showing near you here.
