In 2002, Before Sunrise director Richard Linklater began an ambitious and venerable project called Boyhood. Over the course of 12 years, Linklater got a cast and crew together annually to film scenes for the movie in Texas, which he aimed to accurately capture the coming of age process a young boy experiences. As a result, the movie focuses on a family: Ethan Hawke as the father, Patricia Arquette as the mother, and Ellar Coltrane as the boy, over the course of 12 years—no false aging with make-up, no replacing actors, just the same people, once a year for 12 years. It's a huge project to take on, and now, it's finally set to be released later this year.
