The House of Ideas has recruited comedian Patton Oswalt to appear in an upcoming episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In the show, Oswalt will play Eric Koenig, an actual S.H.I.E.L.D. agent from the comics who was recruited into Nick Fury’s original squadron of Howling Commandos. Oswalt is a lifelong comic fan, but he certainly doesn’t resemble the tall, handsome, and blonde Koenig. In an interview with Marvel.com, Oswalt said he had to do some research on the character.
“When they first told me the character’s name, I’ll admit the first thing I did is I went on Wikipedia and looked up the M.O.D.O.K. character to see if Koenig was maybe his name before he became M.O.D.O.K., but it wasn’t,” laughs Oswalt. “They keep on talking about the Clairvoyant in the show and I’m like, ‘is that M.O.D.O.K.? Am I M.O.D.O.K.?”
M.O.D.O.K. might be a more physical fit for Oswalt, but this version of Koenig will be molded to fit the comedian's talents. While fans hoping for Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man to show up will still be disappointed, at least we’ll be in for a few laughs when Oswalt enters the Marvel Universe.
