After the death of Harold Ramis yesterday, it was assumed by many that Sony would immediately scrap plans for the long-delayed Ghostbusters 3. However, not even the death of one of the original Ghostbusters could stop the studio from moving forward with this cash cow. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel is still a go, but the script will have to be reworked to eliminate the planned cameo from Ramis.

Director Ivan Reitman will meet with studio executives soon to discuss how the film can work without Ramis. He was originally scheduled to briefly appear and pass the Ghostbusters torch to a new cast; however, we’ll never see that come to fruition.

While Ramis’ involvement in a third is said to be minimal, he was still scheduled to receive a portion of the movie’s gross, which will now be awarded to his estate. As of now, the project is still in the early stages of development, so any script rewrites won’t affect the release date.
