This past weekend the PlayStation 4 dropped in Europe setting a world record as the fastest selling console in the UK while outselling the lifetime sales of the Wii U in just two days.

Now Sony has revealed the console's total sales figures. As of December 1, 2.1 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold worldwide since its launch in the US on November 15. Of those 700,000 were sold in just two days in Europe and Australia. Check out this video of German gamers gone wild.

Sony Entertainment president Andrew House writes, "Demand remains incredibly strong and continues to overwhelm the supply worldwide, but we are diligently working to meet those growing demands and to deliver additional PS4 units to our retail partners throughout the holiday season. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support."

The Xbox One matched first weekend says of the PS4 when it launched last month but Microsoft hasn’t released international numbers yet. Sony will continue to roll out the next-gen console to more regions until its final launch in Japan on February 22, 2014.
