Aside from checking in early, the other big move pre-airport is to pack so you don’t have to check your bag. If you’re planning to head out on a rugged wilderness excursion or have an exorbitant amount of gifts for little nieces and nephews, you’re rightfully excused from the no-checking rule. But if you’re going on a trip for a few days, some smart packing almost always makes carry-on only possible. Not only will you avoid potential fees if your bag is overweight, but should it get lost, it can take days for your bag to turn up if it does at all. Bonus: When you land you can leave the airport immediately, which means more time poolside, frozen beverage in hand.
