The future just got a little weirder. According to a New York Times report, Google has bought Boston Dynamics, maker of terrifyingly sophisticated robots like Cheetah, which can run at a speed of 29 miles per hour, and Petman, which is a terrifyingly human-like machine.
There's no word on how Boston Dynamics will be integrated into Google's efforts, but Andy Rubin, who recently took over as head of the company's robotic projects, praised the deal in a tweet.

The engineering firm currently holds a $10.8 million contract with DARPA, which Google says will be honored. The search giant claims it doesn't intend to enter the military contracting fray but the implications are intriguing, to put it mildly.
